What's New in MotiveWave 2.1

Below is information on the major features and enhancements included in MotiveWave's version 2.1 (since the last major release of version 2.0). Please visit the MotiveWave download page for full Release Notes on each release including minor releases and to download the latest version of MotiveWave.

Elliott Wave Enhancements:

  • Auto Analyze Enhancement - a new option has been added to allow you to skip the 'Delete Existing Waves' confirmation dialog.

Ratio Enhancements:

  • Several enhancements were added for ratio components:
    • Vertical Resizing - By default the vertical resizing of the ratios has been turned off (ability to adjust visible ratios by adjusting resize points). This feature can be turned back on from Preferences -> Ratios.
    • Custom Ratio Settings - From the ratio settings dialog you can now directly adjust the ratios and their properties. This includes:
      • Label Outline - None, Rectangle, Rounded
      • Line Color/Style
      • Text Color
      • Label Fill Color
      • Font
    • Ratio Presets - For convenience, ratio settings on a component can be saved as presets and applied later to another component (see Ratio Settings Dialog).
      • Presets can also now be applied to components by default. (See Preferences Panel -> Ratios -> Defaults).
    • Ratio Styles now have options for:
      • Label Outline
      • Label Color

Chart Enhancements:

  • Ruler Tool - Allows you to measure price movement, time and angles by clicking and dragging the mouse cursor. This is accessible from the tools drop down on the tool bar.
  • Percent Change Charts - Percent change charts are now supported as a Bar Type. This will display the graph as a line chart as a percent change from a reference bar. The reference bar can be one of:
    • First Bar - First visible bar on the chart
    • Last Bar - Last (most recent) bar on the chart
    • Specific Bar - Choose a specific bar from which to calculate the percent change
    • Bar Settings Dialog - This new dialog is accessible via right click on the chart (choose 'Bar Settings'). From this dialog you can configure the bar type, scheme and bar size. You can also enter custom bar sizes (in minutes) from this dialog.
  • Renko Tails - This new option for Renko bars shows the 'real' high and low values of the bars as 'tails' (solid lines).
  • Hybrid Renko Bars - This new type of bar is similar to a Renko bar but adds a 'reversal' interval that applies when the trend changes direction. Options are available for showing the tails (real high/lows) and normalizing of the bars (each bar is artificially set to the reversal size).
  • Watch List Linking - This feature allows you to link the active instrument in a watch list to the active chart. When selecting a new symbol (table view only), the active chart will automatically switch its symbol.
  • Bar Size Selector - This new feature displays a configurable set of bar sizes as a set of tabs at the bottom of the chart.
    • Change Bar Size - Just click on one of the bar size tabs to change the bar size for the chart.
    • User Configurable - The Bar Size selector has a default set of bar sizes, but you can customize to show your own bar sizes. This is available from the Preferences Dialog (Configure -> Preferences from the top menu bar of the Console). Its under the 'Chart -> Bar Size Selector' tabs. Alternatively, right click on one of the tabs and choose 'Configure'.
  • Time Span - This option available on the Bar Size Selector tool bar (looks like two blue arrows pointing left and right) allows you to quickly select a time frame to display. For example: Today, This Week, 1 Month, 6 Months, 5 Years etc.
  • Go to Date - This option available on the Bar Size Selector tool bar (looks like a calendar with an arrow on it) allows you to go to a particular date on the chart. Click on the button and choose the desired date.
  • Next/Prev Bar Size - Short cuts have been added (Shift + -> and Shift +<-) for choosing the next/previous bar size in the Bar Size Selector.
  • Templates Enhancements:
    • Shortcuts - Shortcut keys ALT-1, ALT-2 etc. may now be used to quickly apply chart templates.
    • Template Settings - Template specific settings have been added to the Preferences Dialog (Preferences -> Chart -> Templates).
    • Default Template - A default template can be configured to be displayed on all charts (see Preferences).
    • Delete Template - You can right click on a template title and choose 'Delete' to remove a template from a chart.
  • Page Up/Down - These keys will now switch the active chart to the next chart (in the Console or Chart Group). In a chart window, this will move to the next open analysis.
  • Studies - 78 new studies were added, including Triple Exponential Moving Average (TEMA), and Triangular Moving Average (TMA). For details see the 'Add Study' dialog (Study -> Add Study) in the software.
    • Ichimoku Kinko Hyo Enhancement - Added the ability to display a crossing points and signals for Tenkan line crossing Kijun line.

Trading Enhancements:

  • Strategies - 23 new strategies were added. For details see the 'Add Strategy' dialog (Strategy -> Add Strategy) in the software and our Strategies section in the Knowledgebase.
  • Integrated DOM - The Depth of Market (DOM) window can now be displayed as a panel on a chart (instead of a separate window).
  • Client OCO Orders - OCO orders are now supported for brokers that do not have native OCO support. These orders execute on the client side (MotiveWave application), so you need to ensure that MotiveWave is running in order for the OCO to be activated.
  • Trade Panel - Now includes a 'Position' tab. This tab has convenient buttons for:
    • Buy/Sell Market
    • Close Open Position
    • Cancel All Orders
    • Reverse Position
    • Displays Current Position/Entry and PnL
  • Entry/Exit Strategies - The Trade Panel now includes an 'Entry/Exit' panel. This feature allows you to quickly create and configure your own Entry/Exit strategies. These are combinations of orders that can be placed with a single click of the mouse:
    • Entry - This will create one or more entry orders that have relative offsets and quantities. Four default entries are included:
      • Breakout - Creates two OCO stop orders
      • Fade - Creates two OCO limit orders
      • Break Up/Fade Down
      • Break Down/Fade Up
    • You can also configure your own entry strategy from the 'Manage Entry/Exit Strategies' dialog.

    • Exit - This will automatically create a set of exit orders for an open position. If specified, the exit will automatically adjust the exit quantities to match an open position.
    • Enty/Exit - This combination order will automatically create the exit orders once the set of entry orders has been filled (Note: MotiveWave must be running in order for this to work properly).
    • Trade Panel/DOM Panel - This feature is available from the Trade Panel as well as the DOM Panel (or DOM Frame).

Preferences

  • Custom Bar Themes - You can now create your own bar themes in the Preferences Dialog (Theme tab). This allows you to choose the colors of the bars.
    • Once you create your Custom Bar Theme, go back to the Theme tab and select your custom bar theme from the Bar Theme dropdown. (If you don’t see it in the list, check that the Chart Theme matches — i.e. if you checked Dark on the custom theme, make sure you’ve selected one of the Dark themes in the Chart Theme dropdown).
  • Custom Chart Themes - You can now create your own chart themes in the Preferences Dialog (Theme tab).
  • Indicator Settings - Indicators for Bid/Ask/Last/High/Low can now be configured with custom fonts, colors etc. See Preferences -> Chart -> Indicators.
  • Auto Scale Price Only - This new option in the Chart Options (Preferences -> Chart tab -> Options tab) will cause auto scale to ignore any components and only scale based on the price bars.

Import Features

  • MetaStock Database Support - The data import mechanism now supports MetaStock database format.
  • Import Instruments - This feature allows you to import instruments from a CSV file into a watch list. (see Import Instruments)

Brokers

  • Interactive Brokers CMDTY - Commodity types are now supported in the Interactive Brokers workspaces.
  • ATC Brokers - You can now connect to ATC brokers.

Performance

  • Changing Time Frame - When you change the time frame for a chart, the performance of loading this chart has been improved.
  • Delete Instruments - Instruments can now be deleted from the system. Right click on the instrument in the watch list and choose 'Delete Instrument' Note: this will remove all associated data and analyses.
